At one of my yoga classes recently one of the students started talking (raving) about some new underwear she was swearing by for LBL (that’s ‘light bladder leakage for the uninitiated!) and periods. To be fair my reaction was somewhere between “no way is that possible” and “EEEEEWWWW” but I was pretty curious!
Just by total coincidence, about a week later Kirsty, the founder of MODIBODI got in touch with us to see if we would be interested in testing some out. One reason being that they pride themselves on being a “body positive” brand and have made a commitment not to airbrush any of their models (yay).
My one bit of feedback is more body and cultural diversity in the models they use. Sizes go up to 26 which is good but there is still a market in Australia for a little bigger too I would say.
“Kristy’s vision is to build a brand that empowers women and as part of that vision Modibodi™ actively supports causes and organisations that champion the empowerment of women including Share the Dignity and Days for Girls.”
The whole principle behind this amazing product is that they seem (and feel) like regular underwear. I tested out the “full brief” (size 20 was a good fit for me) and apart from being far superior quality (bamboo cotton) than my normal undies they have a ingenious lining which absorbs LBL and periods. Then you just throw then in the wash (which I have and they wash up beautifully)
I gave them the ultimate test. A 8 hour Fat Yoga video shoot (usually not so fresh after one of these!) and they came up totally dry and comfy. I also use a Diva Cup so did another test day on one of those days which I highly recommend in case of the concessional random leak which can happen now and then. This has you totally covered.
How it works? I think its better to read all about it here to save my sub-par explanation of all things scientific!
This is what Fiona thought (she was a size 12)
“the combination of light and super comfortable fabric plus additional layers made them perfect for either daily or active wear. I found them very supportive yet not bulky in any way..”
So then my mission was to get in touch with the Fat Yoga community to see if any of them were using them. Turns out heaps were. This is just some of the feedback. This was totally unpaid by the way. Just what they genuinely said when I asked if they knew about it.
KB Perth “Just bought one pair to try and converted both comfortable and fit well and do what they promise. Going to be only buying these from now on”
BC Melbourne “I have two pairs and they’re great for period days. I’d love the same pants without the insert for normal days (as they are comf)”
KR Melbourne “Super comfy, I have the high cut ones. No leaks, no smells, easy to wash and good for the environment. I love them so much I now wear them every day!”
So, my verdict was thumbs up. Good for the environment, good for body positivity and great to see an Aussie company doing so well.
